Yes, you can build a fully functional mech in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
If you were wondering if it’s possible to build a mech in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – yes, yes it is.
As soon as we all saw the fact you could make some absolutely wacky constructions in those Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom trailers, we all knew that people would end up building some impressive structures. After all, we live in a world where people create entire cities in Minecraft, so with the tools available in Tears of the Kingdom, someone was going to make something cool eventually. Well, it’s not eventually as the game only came out yesterday, but someone has in fact already made a mech. Spoiler warning for some gameplay mechanics ahead.
The clip comes from 4kliksAlex, which you can watch here, showing off the build and it’s obviously absolutely ridiculous. Not only is it completely mobile, driving around the place on a couple of wheels, but it comes complete with the appropriate artillery too. This mech isn’t just for looks, it’s got functionality too! About halfway through the video you can see the mech take down a Hinox in a matter of seconds.
If you’re considering making such a construction yourself, you’ll need to put the work in though. You can see in the video that the mech requires all eight Zonai batteries to function for an extended period of time, and when it starts blasting, it chugs through those things like a 10 ton truck.
On top of that, you’ll need the Autobuild ability which you don’t get until you’re a good few hours into the game. Understandably, you might need some help with getting started, and we’ve got a guide to help you figure out where you should go first if you’re trying to play the story in order. And you might want to check out our Skyview Tower locations guide so you can better figure out where you’re going.

Recently, a new title from the Zelda franchise was released: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, or BotW. Aside from being universally acclaimed, one of the most exciting features in the game is that you can now build and pilot a fully functional mech.
If you are a fan of the series, you are probably aware that you have been able to build and customize your own mechanical weapon in the past few titles, such as Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword and Skyward Sword. However, in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, you can now not only build a mech, but you can actually pilot it and take it out into the open world. The fact that you can pilot a mech in Breath of the Wild makes it an even bigger draw for the series, as it gives an extra level of excitement and exploration to the game.
The mechs, referred to in the game as Vahal Rooms (a name given by the denizens of Hyrule to their mechanical creations), are made of naturally occurring materials, scrap, and other items that can be found by exploring the expansive world of Hyrule. With these materials, you can craft a variety of different parts and pieces that combine to make four distinct models of mechs. These models range from the basic combat-oriented Vah Ruta to the explorer/utility Vah Rudania, the guillotine Vah Medoh, and the imposing and intimidating Vah Naboris.
Building a mech doesn’t just require materials, however, as the construction process is incredibly complex. You need to acquire the knowledge and resources that are required to construct the pieces of the mech, as well as a specific set of Shrines that must then be solved in order to construct the mech correctly. That being said, constructing a mech is an incredibly satisfying task, as when you are done you have an incredibly powerful companion that you can control and take out into the fields of Hyrule.
Yes, creating and piloting a mech in the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is an exciting and rewarding addition to the series, offering players a chance to explore and experience the world of Hyrule in a new way.
